On February 25-26 the project consortium of "RI-LINKS2UA - Strengthening Research and Innovation Links towards Ukraine" met in Palais Ferstel (Vienna) to conduct the project kick-off meeting. This event marked the beginning of this large-scale CSA (Corordination and Support Action) project between the European Union and Ukraine in the field of research and innovation. The meeting was hosted by the project coordinator ZSI - Centre for Social Innovation.
RI-LINKS2UA is a three year long project, which is funded by HORIZON 2020, the EU Framework Programme for Research and Innovation. The project includes a total of twelve different project partners, coming from both the EU Member States (Austria, France, Poland, Estonia, Hungary, Romania, Italy) as well as from a country of the EU-Eastern Partnership (Moldova) and, of course, Ukraine itself. The fact that research ministries from seven EU countries officially support this project proves its importance in view of the current co-operation efforts between the EU and Ukraine. The project activities build on the results of previous EU-funded support projects with Ukraine, such as BILAT-UKR*AINA (coordinated by ZSI) and BILAT-UKR.
In the frame of the kick-off meeting each project partner introduced its assigned work package, followed by feedback and dicussions on the implementation of the work package activities. Gorazd Weiss (ZSI) as project coordinator spoke about the administrative and strategic framework of the project in regard to the status quo in current Science, Technology and Innovation (STI) co-operation between the EU and Ukraine. The overall aim of the project is to further support and enhance the integration of Ukraine to the European Research Area (ERA) and to increase the participation of Ukrainian stakeholders (universities, research institutions, business actors, SMEs, etc.) in successfully funded HORIZON 2020 projects.
